DAY 1 -AM- Tuesday June 18, 2013 10am-1pm$150.00Machine Quilting Skills for Newbies—Practice Makes Perfect—hands on
If you're thinking about a stand up machine or have just purchased one and are wondering how to "get good fast" then this class is the one for you! Even domestic machine quilters will benefit from the skill builder exercises Dawn will teach you that will speed up your readiness, and give you the confidence to tackle a real project. No one likes to practice...we just want to "do it"! But with a little training about HOW and WHAT to practice, you'll discover that you're much more satisfied with your first efforts, and less likely to reach for that seam ripper. You'll split practice drawing time with practice quilting time as you sharpen your muscle memory, hand-eye coordination, and control. These skills quickly lead to more advanced techniques such as feathers, pebbling, echos, and more. With going on 20 years of experience to share with you, Dawn will help you leave your "newbie" feelings behind!

DAY 1 -PM- Tuesday June 18, 2013 2pm-5pm$150.00Continuous Curves for Newbies--Hands On
Continuous curve quilting is one of those skills that every quilter should have in a bag of tricks. It can soften hard edges of patchwork, replace stitching in the ditch, and even camouflage piecing problems like twisted or shadowing seams or points that don't quite come out where they should. While there are probably just as many paths for continuous curves as there are quilters, Dawn's unique teaching techniques help you quickly master the art so that you won't get lost along the path and forget a line or two! You'll start with simple skill-building exercises, then move on to more complex designs like flying geese, Irish chains, and more. You'll also discover how to modify the curve for more exciting designs. You won't be stumped by "where to go next" with Dawn's special tips and will be pleased with how quickly you can quilt your next project without stitching in the ditch! No matter what the design, you'll be able to tackle it!

DAY 1 -EVE- Tuesday June 18, 2013 6pm-8pm$75.002-hour Lecture: Solving Tension Headaches EVENING
Nothing is more frustrating to quilters than to battle with tension troubles. In this informative class you’ll learn WHY your tension can be imbalanced, but even more importantly, what steps you can take to get it under control. Dawn explains the mechanics of machine quilting, and addresses needles, batting, fabric, and thread variables which can affect your success. You’ll discover how to handle unusual threads like invisible, metallic, and mylar, and what to do to help them sew properly on your longarm. An hour is never enough for all the info you’ll receive in this class, so Dawn has extended it to a 2-hour course so that more questions can be included from the students. Be sure to bring your questions with you to class!

Border Designs in Half the Time -- Hands On
Borders frame out a quilt’s design beautifully—and they deserve special attention to make a quilt special. However, borders can seem complicated to a stand-up quilter if you don’t know the secrets to quick design, placement, and quilt turning. Dawn will first show you how to deal with that “not so perfect” border that’s wavy or puckered. Then you’ll learn several methods to getting a border design onto the quilt, from using only quickly-marked reference lines to stitching completely freehand designs. Best of all, you’ll learn Dawn’s quick, simple quilt turning method so that you can handle the side borders without all the starts and stops and pre-marking often required. You'll discover nearly two dozen quick designs to fill both large and small spaces, and will amaze yourself at how simple it can be in the process!

You'll be able to use this technique to create bags, garments, wall quilts and more--the only limit is your imagination! The class is long enough for you to complete the entire project, so you'll go home with a quilt ready for binding and enjoying. Take some time for yourself for a change! (there is a supply list for this class. Students provide fabric and batting.)
